HPE Morpheus VM Essentials: Cluster Setup and Preparations

After installing the HVM OS on each host and deploying the VM Essentials manager, the next phase is preparing the environment for a proper cluster: validating host readiness, defining the groups and clouds, defining the cluster object in the manager, and configuring the basic settings that will govern how workloads are placed and managed. In HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, the cluster is the logical grouping of HVM hosts that share network and storage resources and are managed as a single compute pool by the manager. Getting this foundation right simplifies later steps like host onboarding, service plans, and VM provisioning.

In the video below, I walk through the cluster setup and preparation steps I performed in my lab: checking host status, creating the cluster in the manager, and applying the initial configuration needed before adding hosts and defining cloud.

With the cluster created and basic settings in place, the environment is ready for the next steps: defining networks and datastores at the cluster level, and then provisioning VMs against those resources.
